Listed below are answers to frequently asked questions. Please read this page before sending us an email, as your question may have already been answered.
Why are there pop-up ads on your site? File hosting is an expensive and complicated service to deliver, but by displaying advertising on the site, we are able to provide this service to you 100% free of charge.
How do I use your P2P system?
Please read our comprehensive tutorial.
I tried to download a file using the peer-to-peer option, but it says I need Internet Explorer. Why can't I use other browsers like Firefox?
The RedSwoosh peer-to-peer client currently only supports Internet Explorer. Firefox and other browser compatibility will be added in the future.
How do I uninstall your peer-to-peer client?
If you wish to uninstall RedSwoosh, simply click on Start, then go to Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs. Find the RedSwoosh program and click uninstall. The client will be completely removed from your system.
I uploaded a video file bigger than 200MB, but when I try to download the file it opens Windows Media Player. How can I stop this from happening?
Since files larger than 200MB are only downloaded via our high speed peer-to-peer system, it is strongly recommended that you compress the video file to zip or rar format before you upload. This will prevent Windows Media Player from trying to stream the file, and allow people to download it normally.
I downloaded a .zip or .rar file, but when I try to extract the file it asks me for a password. How can I find out what the password is?
If someone uploads a passworded file, you will need to contact that person, or their web site where you found the download link, in order to find out the password.
Can I direct link to files?
No, but you can share the proper file download link with as many people as you like, including on internet forums, other web sites, etc. Direct links will expire after 10 minutes. This is to prevent other sites from stealing our bandwidth. You should always use the link given to you after you upload your file, to download and share it with others.
Why are there HTTP links for some files and FTP links for others?
Files under 75MB are provided for download via HTTP. Files larger than 75MB are downloaded via FTP as this is a more reliable and faster way to download larger files.
How many people can download from the same IP address?
You are restricted to one connection per IP address. If you wish to use a download manager and enable multiple connections, you will need to purchase a premium link.
I clicked on a download link but it says "Login incorrect". What does this mean?
If you get this message, it means the link you clicked on was a direct download link and therefore will not work. Direct download links to files on FileFactory only last 10 minutes, to prevent direct linking from other sites. To download a file, simply use the download link provided when your upload completes. This link will always work! If someone else gave you a direct download link, and you get the "Login incorrect" message, you may need to ask him/her for the correct link which they were given when they uploaded their file. Likewise, when you upload a file, please share the link you are given when your upload completes.
I tried to download a video file, but it keeps opening in Windows Media Player. How can I save it to my hard drive?
Instead of left-clicking the download link for a video file, if you right-click and select "Save target as..." you will then be prompted to select a save location, and the video will download as normal.
My file upload stopped before it had finished. What happened?
This can be caused by a number of things. The most common cause is your Internet connection temporarily dropping out. While broadband connections are supposedly "always on" they often do drop out for a short while, and you may not even notice it when it happens. Unfortunately this can in some cases interrupt your upload, and you will need to start again. While this will never happen to most people, we are currently working on an upload system that supports resuming broken uploads to prevent this from happening. Uploads will also stop if you close the upload window - you must leave this open until your upload is finished.
Why are downloads currently so slow? Normally when I download from this site, the speeds are much faster.
The download server you are attempting to download from is most likely overloaded. We have a mirroring system which copies popular files to multiple servers, however it can take some time for a file to be identified as popular. Try downloading at a later time - late at night in USA and European time zones are usually the quietest, and therefore you will most likely get much better speeds then.
